The world premiere of the new show from Mitch Jones (Circus Oz, Slava’s Snowshow) will open at Darebin Arts Centre this October.

Australia’s best physical performers seamlessly weave together circus, dance and clowning to create a seductive and visually stunning exploration of outsider communities and the transformative power of embracing the unconventional.

With erotic and surreal symbolism, Apocrypha delves into the philosophical poetry of turning despair into moments of transcendent beauty – honouring stories from outside the canon that are built on love, pain and solidarity.

The show’s mix of the profound and the playful has become a bold hallmark of Oozing Future’s acclaimed performances. See the tightrope walker dance along rusty chains, while the acrobat spins hula hoops which blacken his body with painted scars. Throwing knives transform into roses, and contortionists balance precariously on weeping bluestone boulders.

Apocrypha is a slow burn, a cult film with a first date, a strong whiskey on a cold night and a mesmerising tapestry that lingers long after the final curtain falls.

Apocrypha has been supported through its development by Circus Oz, National Institute of Circus Arts, Creative Australia, Creative Victoria and Darebin Arts. It is a co-production between Oozing Future and Lauren Eisinger productions.
